FAQs

What is Houston BCycle?

Houston BCycle is a bike sharing service in Houston, Texas. With a network of 24/7/365 on-demand bicycle stations throughout multiple neighborhoods in Central Houston, we provide Houstonians and visitors alike an easy, fast way to navigate the city core. Check out our station map here.

How does it work?

Rent a BCycle from any B-station, ride it, and dock it at any B-station. It’s that simple. You can start and end your ride at any B-station.

How do you check out a BCycle?

Walk-up users can pay by credit/debit card at any B-station. If you’re using the kiosk to check out a bike, move quickly! You’ve got 30 seconds to get the bike out of its dock.

Members check out bikes by using the free mobile app or an RFID card. Members can also check out bikes using the B-station screen by entering either the phone number or credit card associated with the account.

How much does it cost to ride?

Walk-up users pay $3 per 30 minutes until the bike is returned.

All members get unlimited 60-minute rides. Overage fees are $3 per 30 minutes. As soon as you dock the BCycle, your timer resets and you can check out another.

  • Monthly Memberships cost $9

  • Annual Memberships cost $99

  • Student/Staff Memberships cost $5/month

How can I extend my membership?

When you’re signed in to your account, any membership that you purchase simply adds time to your existing membership. We’ll make sure you get to ride for each and every day that you’ve paid for.

What happens if I get to a B-station and there’s no room for my bike?

Use the mobile app to find a nearby B-station with open docks. If you have any unexpected overage fees due to the extra ride time, call Customer Service (713) 865-3662 immediately and we will help you resolve the issue.

If you are absolutely unable to ride to another B-station, lock the bike to the full B-station and call Customer Service (713) 865-3662 immediately.

Can you pay with cash?

Currently, Houston BCycle does not accept cash payments.

(We’re working on it. Stay tuned.)

What is the BCycle bike like?

BCyles have tons of cool features, incuding auto-generated front and back lights, a built-in lock and key, and three-speed gear shift. Click here to learn more about the BCycle set-up.

How do I know if my BCycle was returned properly?

When returning your BCycle, make sure you push the bike all the way into an open dock. You should hear 3 beeps and see the green light flash to confirm your return. Try giving your bike a tug to see if it comes back out. Make sure to opt-in to text messages–you'll receive a text every time your b-cycle is properly docked!

What if I want to keep the bike all day?

Bike sharing is meant for short trips. That’s why our pricing model is based on 30/60-minute trips. If you want to ride around Houston for the entire day, we recommend contacting a local bike rental shop.

Can I reserve a BCycle ahead of time?

Bike sharing is a public transit option–therefore, we cannot allow reserved bikes. However, if you are part of an organization that would like to reserve a group of bikes for a special event, please reach out to hmorris@houstonbikeshare.org for pricing info.

When are the stations open?

You can check out bikes from our stations 24/7/365.

How can I see a map of stations on-the-go?

Download the BCycle mobile app. If you’re a member, you’ll also be able to use the app to check out bikes while you’re at a station.

What happens if the bike gets lost or stolen?

Contact Customer Service immediately at (713) 865-3662. You are financially responsible for any and all bikes checked out of a station on your card. If the bike you checked out is not recovered, you will be responsible for the replacement cost, $1200 plus sales tax.

Is it legal to ride without a helmet?

In Houston, anyone 18-and-older may ride without wearing a helmet.

What if I am involved in an accident?

If there has been an injury, please dial 911 first. If appropriate, contact the police as well. As in any accident, exchange information with any other affected party and collect contact information from witnesses. Then, contact Customer Service at (713) 865-3662 the earliest appropriate time.

Please return a bike with a flat tire to the nearest B-station. Contact Customer Service (713) 865-3662 at the earliest convenience to alert them to the maintenance issue so we can lock down the bike for repair.
