How's the Air in OST/South Union

  • George T. Nelson/Yellowstone Park 3820 Yellowstone Boulevard Houston, TX 77021 (map)

OST/South Union residents care about the air we breathe! Join us on Saturday, June 12 @ 10am as we check the air quality in our community.

Register to join DREAM 77021, Air Alliance Houston, and Houston BCycle on Saturday, June 12 at 10 a.m. for a bike ride and community walk to test the air quality throughout the OST/South Union community. Bikers must be 12 years of age or older to participate. This is a free event but registration is required.

There will be two routes, one for bike riders and one for walkers. A limited number of portable air monitors will be provided to participants to detect the presence of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in OST/South Union. VOCs are a variety of gaseous chemicals that are emitted into the air from products or processes, which can have short and long-term adverse health effects on individuals, families, and communities.

Why is this event important?

  • Residents and community partners will begin to collect air quality information specific to OST/SU and learn how air quality impacts community health

  • Residents and community partners will increase awareness of air quality in OST/SU and advocate for change

Why should you join the bike ride and community walk?

  • Clean air is a right, not a privilege

  • Great opportunity to meet other neighbors and community members who are working together to improve community conditions in OST/South Union

Registered participants will receive a reusable water bottle, towel, and t-shirt. (While supplies last.)

Please bring your bike to the event. A limited number of bicycles will be available on a first come, first serve basis, thanks to Houston BCycle. Helmets are required for all bike ride participants and can be provided upon request.
